2010 Fair Work At UTS

The Academic Bargaining Team will meet with Managements negotiators on the 1, 7 and 8 July while the Support Staff Bargaining Team will meet with Management on the 12 July. Our claims enable broad improvements at UTS, to take us beyond the Work Choices era, to the new fair work arrangements. Key elements include:
a more secure workplace: reversing the trend to non-secure employment at UTS, with limits on the use of casual and fixed term contracts, and a right to apply for conversion to part-time or full-time continuing positions.
a fairer workplace: across-the-board 17\% superannuation regardless of contract status, better classification processes for general staff, improved broadbanding for general staff, a competitive pay rise of at least 3\% every 6 months for all staff.
a healthy workplace: real caps on workload, with a fair balance between teaching, research and academic administration for both fixed-term and continuing academics.
genuine flexibility: improved entitlements for staff returning to work from primary carer's responsibility, and leave provisions that allow for real work and life balance.
a democratic workplace: full recognition of the unions as expressing staff views, and as active Parties to the Enterprise Agreement, with a real voice in University decisions that have an impact on the work of academics and general staff;
a sustainable workplace: commitment from UTS to work with staff and the unions to reduce the environmental and carbon footprint of the University.
To enable the bargaining teams to demonstrate the significance of the NTEU's claims to the University, all staff are asked to put your name to the petition below either online or on a paper copy being circulated in your work area. The negotiating teams will be presenting this to Management to show them the strength of your support.
We the undersigned academic and support staff members of UTS, express our support for the claims being pursued by the NTEU academic and support staff bargaining teams in enterprise bargaining. We believe that the claims are important in creating a workplace that is fairer, healthier, democratic, sustainable and that gives security and genuine flexibility for staff.
We endorse the NTEU's vigorous pursuit of the claims.
