Privacy Policy

Privacy Statement

Freecause recognizes the importance of your privacy and your right to control your personal information. We understand that providing personal information is an act of trust, and we take this responsibility seriously. This Privacy Policy forms part of our Terms of Use (TOU) and should be read in conjunction with them.

Email Privacy

Your email address will never be displayed publicly on this website.

  • We will not send you emails unrelated to Freecause.

  • If provided, your email address will be stored securely.

  • If you sign a petition, you may receive a signature receipt by email for your records. This receipt includes information on how to edit and manage your signature.

  • Your email address may be used for signature verification during quality control to maintain high standards of integrity in signature lists.

Use of Your Information

Freecause will not sell or share your personal information with any third party, except as described in this policy.

  • Petition Authors: If you sign a petition, your information will be accessible to the petition’s author. Authors agree to use this information responsibly and in compliance with our Terms of Use and this Privacy Policy. Authors may contact you about the campaign you supported or forward petition signatures to the petition’s target. Petition targets may view signature details. Authors are prohibited from republishing signatures on other websites or media platforms.

Public Display of Signatures and Comments

  • Your signature (and any accompanying comment) may be publicly displayed in the petition’s signature list. Public lists do not include email or street addresses but may include your town or city.

  • Petition authors have the option not to display their lists publicly. However, assume that the list may be displayed unless explicitly stated otherwise.

  • You can use our "Anonymous" designation feature to cloak your name and hide your signature from public view. Comments can also be hidden from public view if desired.

  • Please note that search engines (e.g., Google) may index publicly visible signatures and comments. To prevent indexing, cloak your signature and hide your comment. Users can edit their signatures and comments to manage search engine exposure. Instructions are available in our FAQ.

Facebook Comments

If you use the Facebook comment feature on a petition, your name and profile photo may appear on the Freecause site. This feature is powered by a Facebook plugin. Freecause does not guarantee that attempts to edit Facebook comments will achieve the desired results. Using this feature is at your own risk.

Signature Details and Personal Information

Signatures include the signer’s IP address, which is accessible to the petition’s author and Freecause administrators for security purposes. Other personal information collected during the signing process will be treated in compliance with international data protection standards.
