A Petition for Legislation That Would Restrict the Regulations on Sheep, Solar Panels, and Political Signs Imposed by Local Ordinances in Suburban Neighborhoods:

Neighborhood covenants in many suburban areas place unfair restrictions on residents.
Solar panels and political signs are prohibited in some of the more affluent areas because they are seen as eyesores. We believe that political signs should be treated like Christmas lights, because Election Day is regarded by many as a holiday, a celebration of our first-amendment rights. We believe that those who feel strongly about a certain issue or candidate should be allowed 1-5 small signs per yard, or one large sign, no repeats.

Rooftop solar panels should be acceptable in every neighborhood. Long-term use of solar power will save the homeowner money and will help the environment. The use of this alternative power source should not be restricted by a local ordinance, especially in areas where solar power would be the most effective due to an increased amount of exposed roof area.

Sheep and other hoofed animals are prohibited by local ordinances in many areas. While we understand the need to regulate the number and species of animals allowed, we wish to stress that farm animals could be used to for practical reasons in a suburban area without causing a disturbance. Sheep can be used to reduce the amount of fuel and work needed to maintain a large yard. Swine or goats can be used to dispose of unwanted organic material if a homeowner can not wash it down the sink because they have a septic tank (or if they just dont have a garbage disposal). All of the animals mentioned return nitrogen and other nutrients to the soil naturally and can be used to replace chemical fertilizers. Sheep love to eat weeds.

Legislation needs to be introduced on this subject. Limiting these kinds of restrictions is the first step to a greener future, a more unified nation, and an educated constituency.

You may not feel that this issue is the most important one, but our motto is "there is no such thing as a small injustice." Resolving these insignificant matters today may avoid large problems for Americans in the future. Please consider our message, and support our cause in any way you can.
