A Shower for an Old Vet

Last year, Bill Owen, an 89 year old veteran of the Battle of the Atlantic, Corvettes, 1939-45 asked the Department of Veterans Affairs, Canada to provide him with a walk-in shower as he is no longer able to get into his bathtub. This request was denied after a brief examination and the ludicrous assertion on the part of the DVA, that Mr. Owen does not need a walk-in shower as he is able to get into his current shower with no problems. This is not true, Bill walks with a cane and recently had kidney surgery.

We feel strongly that Bill's service to his country should be recognized and supported by the current government of Canada, a government that is currently deploying combat troops in Afghanistan, and hypcritically mouthing the words, "support the troops" while at the same time ignoring the legitimate needs of a man who gave ten years of his life to his country, without question or thought of glory or reward.
