A Virtual Machine inside the PS3 OS would be the solution instead of trying to hack the 3D hardware. Sony could allow us to have a virtual machine with enough resources to play Quake 3 like games (limited to this type of performance) on a limited resolution like 1024x768 (a GeForce 3 or 4 type) full screen or Windowed, run a limited (UMPC like) linux version with a real web browser, do msn/yahoo/googletalk chat, open office documents, use tools inside a VM environment that could be easy controlled by the hardware/software to meet Sony's legal requirements. All of this without reboot into "another OS". A 128 MB RAM virtual machine with hard disk virtual memory support in the partition (Like Xen's VM's) would do the job just fine. We could do Compiz Fusion on it, use basic 3D OpenGL apps like some free games or design tools. Thank you very much for reading my petition.
