ABM Workers at UCI in Crisis! Help Save Their Jobs!

UC Irvines ABM workerscustodial workers who are currently outsourced (hired indirectly by the University through third party corporations)have spent the last year and a half struggling to be insourced (hired directly as University employees). However, the administration of UC Irvine has decided to insource the jobs rather than the workers in an attempt to circumvent negotiations regarding the insourcing process with both the current ABM workers committee and AFSCME (the UC-wide service worker union who would represent the ABM workers once hired directly by the University).
Posting these jobs without guaranteeing that the ABM workers be placed in these positions is a malicious way to force administrations terms on the ABM workers after refusing to meet with the workers representatives for several months. Worse than intimidation, UCIs administration is endangering the very livelihoods of hundreds of workers and their families by subverting the collective bargaining process and reinterpreting insourcing to fit its own agenda, potentially causing the very workers who called for the insourcing to lose their jobs. This must not be allowed to happen!
In a demonstration of solidarity, we (the undersigned members of the UCI campus community) demand that Chancellor Drake and Vice-Chancellor Brase publicly guarantee that the ABM workers be hired by UCI or else stop UCI administrators current method of insourcing until they properly negotiate and form an agreement regarding the structuring of the insourcing with the current ABM workers committee and AFSCME.
