In the month of September, Halogen for Command & Conquer: Generals and Halo:RNR for Dawn of War had to shut down, due to a Cease and Desist order from Microsoft.
Many companies have allowed for mods of their games, due to the fact that it gives their game(s) free advertising and gets them noticed. It would be very rare that a company would face profit-loss due to a mod based on their intellectual property.
These are fan-based projects, fans of their games. If they wish to deny their fans, their TARGET AUDIENCE, the right to create content based on their games then they will only face a loss of satisfaction of their customers. The only way Microsoft would face a loss of profit due to these mods is by shutting them down.
Their customers, their fans, have worked hard on these mods. Modifications that would only bring more attention to Halo and the upcoming Halo 3. I think it would be best for everyone if Microsoft allowed these mods to continue.

This is ridiculous....Halogen was doing no harm to the mighty Microsoft. Shutting them down was completely unfair.
