An $87-billion energy plan and no relief for the residential consumer!?!

Canadas energy future has become a front page concern.

Ontario residents are growing increasingly concerned about the governments unprecedented plan to address our long-term energy needs. The current plan - estimated at costing over $87-billion by 2030 - calls for a particular blend of investment which already now is expected to increase the cost of residential energy to the user by at least 50\%.

Going back to the 1990s, progressive thinking countries such as Denmark, Finland, Netherlands, and Latvia, have been changing their investment focus from mega-projects to microgeneration technologies -- empowering homeowners to generate their own electricity & realise the associated savings.

The United States has taken note and as at 2008 unveiled financing programs (PACE) to accelerate the widespread use of microgeneration - including Solar PV, Micro-CHP, Small Wind Turbines, & Geothermal systems. PACE programs provide US homeowners long-term financing options such that the associated energy savings of the energy retrofit exceed the monthly payment -- resulting in a net gain for the homeowner.

Better Energy (www.betterenergyfoundation.org) is a not-for-profit organisation committed to accelerating the adoption of microgeneration technologies. We believe the Ontario Government needs to rethink its commitment to improve electrical generation without addressing the need to help keep energy costs down for the every day family. Better Energy believes that any government plan committing almost $100-billion of taxpayers money must also concern itself with helping residential energy consumers lower their energy costs. It is simply not fair to saddle residential energy users with higher costs.
