An Apology from People of the United States to the World

One caveat: Should any proof arise showing Iraq to be a threat to the United States or any other country, individuals below hold the right to change their opinion about U.S. involvement in that area, especially if and when self-defense is clearly involved.
As a means of expressing the depth of our sincerity, we would like to apologize to the parents of all children killed in the bombings by the United States in the past fifty years - China 1945-46, Korea 1950-53, China again in 1950-53, Guatemala 1954, Indonesia 1958, Cuba 1959-60, Guatemala again in 1960, Congo 1964, Peru 1965, Laos 1964-73, Vietnam 1961-73, Cambodia 1969-70, Guatemala still AGAIN in 1967-69, Grenada 1983, Libya 1986, El Salvador 1980s, Nicaragua 1980s, Panama 1989, Iraq 1991-99, Sudan 1998, Afghanistan 1998, Yugoslavia 1999, and Afghanistan again in 2002.
We would make exceptions in our apology in any case where death resulted from an attempt to invade or overthrow the United States, which we would loyally defend. Any such victim would have, for most of us, been the enemy. We sadly admit that most victims, especially children, of U.S. bombings have not had any intention of harming the people of our country.
We would especially like to apologize for the actions of certain members of our country in the overthrow and murder of Dr. Salvadore Allende in Chile in 1973. The apology is strengthened by our acknowledgement that Dr. Allende was the popularly elected president of Chile and was replaced by a dictator, General Pinochet, who brought death to the citizens of Chile. We admit to being in violation of the U.N. Charter. We apologize to the people of Iran for whatever involvement we had in overthrowing their popularly-elected Dr. Mossadegh in 1953 and replacing him with the puppet dictator, the Shah, as punishment for Dr. Mossadegh's nationalization of Iranian oil. We also offer heartfelt apologies to the people of Central America who have suffered from terrorist organizations such as the "Contras" who received funding and/or support from some in our country. We apologize for not fighting harder against the ignorance that allowed our citizens to see these terrorists as they were brainwashed to see them, as "freedom fighters."
The list goes on and is included only to express our determination that we contribute to a change in attitude in our country, to a search for peace and harmonious living rather than greed or imperialism.
We ask for your forgiveness and your trust in believing that we wish to join the peaceloving people of the world and work for a new and better era where war is never anything but an absolute last resort. Finally, our heads are being raised, and millions of us are finally appearing at protests.
We ask your forgiveness for not having stepped forth sooner to stop the killing of innocent people.
