At Burlington High School in Massachusetts, the new Superintendent, a Mrs. Katie Spinos proposed that when the present music director (Mr. John Middleton) and band director (Matt Lovel) retire the music program would retire with them. The band students of BHS do not believe this is a wise decision.
Neglecting future generations of musical education to fix a budget is appalling! Studies have shown that students that are in any form of music program (Band, Chorus, Music theory) do well in their other studies, especially math.
Here are some things that are extinguished with the music program:
-Musicals
-Marching band
-Jazz Band
-Concert Band
-Chorus
-Select Singers
-Music theory
*And many more programs.
