I am petitoning The American Red Cross to allow homosexuals to give blood. As a gay constituent of the United States of America, I feel like I have the right to give blood. I feel like since the blood banks tests the blood before letting it go to the recipients, then I should be able to give.
One of the questions that is ask of males is if we have had sex with another male since 1977 and another one is if we belong to a high risk category. My belief is this. In this day and time, everyone who is sexually active is a high risk factor for any and all STDs.
I feel like if they (the blood banks) test the blood, then it shouldn't be any problem for us gay males to give. I had recently asked one of my female friends who gave the same day as I tried to if they asked her the question if she had sex with another female since 1977. She said no however, she did mention that they asked her if she has had sex with a male that had a sexual encounter with another male since 1977. I feel like this is a discrimination on ALL males just not to the gay community.
If you as a gay voter or supporter feel this is an injustice, please sign the petition. Our voices must be heard to change this policy.

i too have been discriminated against by a plasma donation center who also said that they were telling everyone else so that i couldnt go there either.....

Everyone should have a fair chance to donate if they choose! Sexual preference/experiences should not automaticlly remove someone from being able to donate, it should be based on how an individual takes care of their body/health.
