Bloomfield Hills School District - November 2007 Ballot

Residents of the Bloomfield Hills School District:
Our schools and our community are very important to us. Although the bond to rebuild Andover and Lahser failed, it did so by less than 1,000 votes, a narrow margin for a first time bond offering. We believe that communication failures led to misinformation accepted as fact by some voters. This, ultimately, defeated the bond.
Meanwhile, our high schools remain in desolate shape and the situation must be addressed now. Every day that goes by without new facilities means:
more children endure the current substandard conditions;
more potential home sales are lost to families choosing to live in districts with 21st century facilities;
more money is wasted patching and repairing facilities that ultimately need to be torn down and replaced; and
a dramatic inflation-related increase in the cost of new construction.
We must act now and incur the relatively low cost of a special election in November, 2007. Know we will save millions in wasteful repairs. Realize that inaction on this issue will cause the Bloomfield Hills Schools to lose our cherished and long-held position as one of the best school districts in Michigan.
We need a reasonable plan for two new high schools that meets all the educational needs of our children, and is supported and celebrated by our community. We want a plan that secures our communitys property values compared to neighboring communities. We need to act now. While the clock ticks, some contentious few are already planning the demise of any potential facilities improvement plans.
Continue to let your voices be heard, and ensure that our district voters get the opportunity to make an educated choice on the next ballot.
