Braintree Town Centre Development STOP! Campaign

Braintree District Council state that by the end of March 2011 they need to select “one of the developers to take forward their proposal”. This sends a clear message that the council has already made its decision to go ahead with the development, regardless of whether the community agree with and support the plans. But do we want this development at all? Did you know it’s not just the Bus Station to be demolished, but the town’s historical Community Centre, as well as the popular community focussed Sioux Ceramics Studio/Café? Braintree town centre is also a conservation area, yet history and beautiful architecture will be torn down and the landscape negatively altered, all in the name of ‘progress’. The purpose of the campaign is to petition Braintree District Council not to proceed with the development behind the old Braintree Town Hall, as detailed in the ‘Talk of the Towns’ development plans.
