Dear Governor Easley:
As you are well aware, North Carolina has a certain young man by the name of Clayton Holmes Aiken who is representing the state very well right now. On Clay's recent visit to North Carolina, you stated that he would be given a bridge in his name if he won the American Idol competition. While Clay barely missed out on being given the title (by under 1\% of the vote), he has truly proven to be a winner since that time. This past Wednesday (June 18, 2003), Clay was proclaimed #1 on Billboard's Hot 100 chart, and he had the highest number in sales of a single since Elton John's "Candle in the Wind."
Because of the aforementioned, we are asking that Clay be presented with a bridge in his honor in the state of North Carolina. It's a little ironic that one of Clay's hit songs is entitled "Bridge Over Troubled Water." Please allow Clay to see that his home state is proud of all that he has accomplished, and that we are 100\% behind him as he continues in his success. He is a remarkable young man, and anything that we can do to acknowledge that fact is encouraged.
