Growing up in the 80's and 90's i was never short of "cool" kids tv programmes to watch. As a result of this, i was never bored on Saturday/Sunday mornings when you had to be quiet because it was 6am, rainy days, or on winter nights when it was too dark to go out and play.
My daughter has not got any such programming pleasure. If i allowed it, she would be stuck watching The Tweenies/Teletubbies/Zingzilla's or some such nonsense that doesn't actually do anything but consume time.
The three previously mentioned shows use words such as "Eh-oh" "Uh-oh" "Zingriffic" "Yeah Mate" "Yeah Jakey" far too often for my liking and as a result i won't allow my daughter to watch them.
She spends the week at school, learning how to talk and how to act around people, only to have this sort of "Dumbed Down" English thrust upon her by these grown people acting like children in "Fat Suits with Boggle Eyes".
It's insulting that our tax and television licence fees pay for such rubbish.
I would happily allow her to sit down and watch The Animals of Farthing Wood, Through the Dragon's Eye, Thundercats, The Smurfs and The Snorks.
Myself and my partner grew up watching these and they did us no harm.
Why should our children have to suffer with their education and social understanding because of these "Educational Programmes" now mass produced and scripted by Anteaters with a collective IQ of 4.
I hope to get this petition noticed by the powers that be. (Head of Programming BBC/ITV/Five) And whatever the result, i shall continue to download these old programmes or allow my daughter to watch them via internet streaming.
Some of the programmes i would hope to be given re-run time. (Not just aimed at children of a certain age.)
The Animals of Farthing Wood
The Poddington Peas
Postman Pat (Original)
The Snorks
The Smurfs
Round the Twist
Pat Sharps Fun House
Fraggle Rock
Thundercats
Captain Caveman
Wacky Racers
The Racoons
Mighty Max
If you believe that the 80's and 90's cartoons we used to watch are far superior to the rubbish they try and force our children to watch now, then sign this petiton.
This is not asking for a ban on the television they are showing now, it's asking for re-runs of television that used to be shown.
Thank you.
