For many years, people have been covered by OHIP, for such services as eye care and physiotherapy. As of April 1, 2005 (physiotherapy) and November 1, 2004 (eye care), people aged 20-64 are no longer covered.
The vast majority of people in the previously mentioned age group, with no major medical conditions, will no longer be covered by OHIP for such services as eye care and physiotherapy. Many of these people do not have private healthcare plans and if they do, they probably wont cover physiotherapy. These millions of taxpayers will not be able to afford eye examinations and physiotherapy. Without physiotherapy services, adults may not ever fully recover from injuries. They might re-injure themselves or the injury could get increasingly worse; therefore, this will result in greater costs for the healthcare system. Furthermore, many professionals, like rehabilitation specialists, are losing their jobs due to the cutbacks.
We petition the McGuinty government to allow OHIP to cover eye care and physiotherapy services once again.
