College Football Fans against the BCS Committee

This petition has been formed to protest the rights that any Independent NCAA School has to becoming eligible for the Bowl Championship Series (BCS).

The most recognizable independent NCAA school is the University of Notre Dame, in South Bend, Indiana.

The rules for any Division 1-A NCAA team to become eligible is:

All Division I-A college football teams are eligible for at-large selection provided they meet both of the following
requirements:

1. Have won at least nine regular season games.
2. Are among the top 12 teams in the final BCS Standings.

On 11/26/2005 Notre Dame became eligible to play in a BCS Bowl game by beating a, now, 5-6 Stanford University team. Yet this is unfair for all the other schools that play in a conference.

As you can see, they have the ability to schedule any team they wish. However, when you look at this schedule they have only beaten 4 teams that are bowl eligible. Out of those four teams only 1 is from an Automatic BCS Conference team (Michigan). The other 3 are what they call Mid-Major Teams. None of these teams are ranked in the top 25 except for Michigan.

We are protesting not only to say that an Independent School has an unfair advantage over teams that have to play in some of the toughest conferences in the nation, but also to state that the BCS should restructure their eligibility rules.

Above are the current eligibility rules for any team. However this is what we purpose

All Division I-A college football teams are eligible for at-large selection provided they meet both of the following requirements:

1. Have won at least ten (10) regular season games.
2. Are among the top 12 teams in the final BCS Standings.
3. Belong to a conference.

We believe if a team does not wish to join a conference in College Football, then they should not be eligible to play in a Bowl Championship Series Bowl Game and/or the BCS National Championship Game.

The AP has the Independents covered for a possible national championship, since the AP is no longer part of the BCS Calculations.
