The State of Ohio has set October 24, 2006 as an execution date for Jeffrey Lundgren. In 1990, an Ohio jury convicted Lundgren of five counts of murder and five counts of kidnapping for the murders of the Avery family: Dennis, 49; his wife, Cheryl, 46; and daughters Trina, 15; Rebecca, 13, and Karen, 7. In a psychological evaluation, Lundgren was determined to suffer from mixed personality disorder with features of narcissism, paranoia, and antisocial traits. Lundgren has no appeals pending. The murder of the Avery family members remains an unthinkable tragedy. At the same time, a state-sanctioned killing is not the solution. We are concerned citizens who urge our governor to act now to commute the death sentence of Jeffrey Lundgren scheduled to be executed on October 24, 2006.
