We seek to re-entitle ourselves to our own money, ethics, and bodies. Currently all residents of Columbus State University housing (with the exception of graduate students) are bound by a compulsory meal plan, the least expensive option of which is 900 dollars a semester. Living on campus places students near classes, practice rooms, and studios. Our dorms have fully equipped kitchens, but we nonetheless pay a minimum of $1800 a year for a meal plan, whether we want it or not.
Vegans, vegetarians, and those with other dietary needs not met by the meal plan, have to purchase this plan, but cannot eat the food they've paid for. In addition to these, many student simply may prefer to buy their own groceries and cook for themselves, rather than purchasing a meal plan.
We would like the option to abstain from the meal plan.
