Defective iPod Shuffles

In the case of iPod Shuffle users having their player break down with the blinking green and red flashing lights problem as described on the following sites:

The issues are the following:

- Apple makes no mention of the limited warranty of the iPod Shuffle on any part of the packaging. In fact, it makes no mention of any warranty, period. The customer is therefore under the impression that the iPod falls under Apple's standard 1-year limited warranty for all other hardware products at the moment of purchase.

- On the basis of the thread mentioned above and of reports by numerous other users, it is clear that this is a recurring problem in this product, although Apple does not acknowledge this yet. It seems fair that any product susceptible to being rendered useless withing approximately the first year of use should be replaced with a functional unit at the manufacturer's cost, not the user's, regardless of the limited warranty.

This petition asks the following of Apple Computer, Inc.:

- Apple look at the information provided by the hundreds of iPod Shuffle users that have fallen victim to this problem and issue a recall for the affected iPod Shuffles.

- Apple indicate clearly on the packaging of all iPods on sale that this particular product is under a limited warranty that stipulates that fees may be applicable for defective units sent in for repair 180 days following the date of purchase.
