The Italian Government is about to pass an "emergency decree", in consequence of which more than 200 cultural institutions will lose all of their funding starting from next July, 1 2010. The Italian Archaeological School, which in 2009-2010 is celebrating one hundred years since its foundation, has been included in such a list of "useless institutions". 2010 risks to be the saddiest centennial for such a distinguished and worlwide appreciated institution, which has carried out excavations at Phaestos, Haghia Triada, Poliochni, Gortyna, etc.
