PETITION TO STOP DISNEY SEQUELS

You cant top pigs, with pigs Try to find what this quote by Walt Disney says about his views on sequels. There are countless reasons to why the sequels at Disney shall be stopped, and reasons why you shall care. Movies such as, Bambi and Peter Pan, had teams of hard working production casts who cared very much about their product. These production casts put their souls into these films so that they would become legacies. It is disgraceful and amoral to the original creators of these films to take their films 60 years later and make a degrading sequel by the same name. It is one thing when the original creators of the film choose to make a sequel, it is another when a team of people 60 years in the future take the original classic and put its name to shame, against the will of the people who first made the film. These sequels shall not be accepted by true Disney fans, stopping them would revitalize an interest in the company therefore increasing profits, finally these sequels kill Walts vision.

To understand the affect of the sequels, look at Disney from a societal view, instead of just a personal view. For about the last 70 years the Disney company has been a cornerstone of American lives, the magic of Disney has spread across seas and affects people all across the globe. Walt Disney created this company with the values of happiness, inspiration, and creativity. All these values have had an affect on the populations of the world, and therefore affected the daily lives of many without notice. Disney sequels have degraded these key values, they are ruining a company that billions of people have fed off of over the last seven decades.

These sequels do not take acknowledge creativity. These sequels use ideas that at the time of their birth are gold, but by the second time around they turn to copper. Disney must preserve this gold. These sequels are creating departments whom possess a lack of imagination, from a company that is supposed to thrive off of ideas and wonder. Not only are the sequels made up of already used ideas, but are made with less quality than the originals. These sequels do not hold themselves up to the Disney standard. They are the mud that has stopped the progression of the company.

To the fans of Disney, you must not stand for the continuation of these sequels. You must let the company know, that you have higher taste than what these sequels produce. Instead of making blockbuster movies, this company chose somewhere along the line to make quick bucks off of many poor quality films. I ask the shareholders to speak up against this, the discontinuation of these degrading films is in your best interest. It is obvious that these films have had an entire affect on the company and has lowered the standards for the writers, the animators, the directors, and so forth. Employees of Disney have been taught that money comes before quality. It is known though that companies who try to cheat their way into making money, end up failures in market. These sequels focus on quantity over quality, fans and shareholders alike, do not let this company toy without any longer.

It is as well in the best interest of the company to halt their sequel departments. As more and more sequels have been released direct to video, Disney films have continued to spiral down at the theatres, where the real bucks are. These sequel departments have inflicted mighty blows to the whole company. No longer are excellence and the very best being demanded. To say that this company has been more successful since the release of the direct to video Aladdin movie is a joke. It is obvious, as Disney has continued to pursue sequels, their feature films have been worse and worse, and therefore done worse and worse. It must put many to awe why a company once so great would put so much focus on remakes, instead of continuing to pursue excellence. Stopping of these sequelsterest in the company, and make it so that this company once again is able to bring in big bucks.

The biggest key to success for this company is carrying out Walts vision. Walt knew that you could put a price on imagination, and people would pay big bucks for it. One thing Walt was always against, were sequels. You cannot carry the company name of Disney, while you pursue ideals he (Walt Disney) found distasteful. If this company fails to withhold his vision, then this company will fail to continue to survive. It is almost a slap in the face to Walts legacy to make these sequels. As seen in these quotes, Walt Disney would not approve of these sequels;

"By nature I'm an experimenter. To this day, I don't believe in sequels. I can't follow popular cycles. I have to move on to new things.

"We keep moving forward, opening new doors, and doing new things, because we are curious - and curiosity keeps leading us down new paths."

"Caution there must be, of course, along with venturesome courage. The motion picture business has long been a chance-taking business. This doesn't mean timidity in planning an operation."

"I've never believed in doing sequels. I didn't want to waste the time I have doing a sequel; I'd rather be using that time doing something new and different.

"And right now we are not thinking about making another Mary Poppins. We never will. Perhaps there will be other ventures with equal critical and financial success. But we know we cannot hit a home run with the bases loaded every time we go to the plate. We also know the only way we can even get to first base is by constantly going to bat and continuing to swing."

It does not only dishonor Walt Disney to support and/or create these sequels, but it is disrespectful as well to the original creators of these films. The feeling you would get if you put four years of devotion and pure effort into a product that was then took generations later and reproduced by a far less talented group would be pure spitefulness. These direct to video sequels are not being produced by the same people who made the original films, but by the same people who make Television kids cartoons for Disney, are far less talented group of people. If the original creators of Bambi, Peter Pan, Lady and the Tramp, The Jungle Book, or 101 Dalmatians never chose to make a sequel to their films, we should not hand their films off to TV animation departments years down the line. A number of the people who contributed these original masterpieces are now dead in their graves where they cannot fight these sequels, as respect, we owe it to them to not put shame to the names that they put glory to.

These sequels have put shame to the Disney name. Instead of Finding the child within, they have found toddlers and day cares. The problem with these sequels is that they have carried the Disney name along with them, and carried the original movie name, tarnishing golden figures. These sequels do not only put shame to the Disney name, but are amoral, they pay the lowest respect to Walt Disney and the original creators of these films. Once you have something great, keep it great, do not tarnish it. If this company stops these sequels, they will return to their days of glory, and once again dominate the box office. This petition comes in the wake of a new CEO for Disney, Mr. Iger. He has the power to take this company to new heights, and take it out of the slumps of Mr. Eisner. If Iger is to ever save this company and throw away the mistakes of Eisner, he must consider stopping these sequels.
