It is not often that I send an open letter in an attempt to rectify something that is so obviously wrong; actually this is the first one. However, the recent action to pull your 30-second television spot featuring recording artist Ludacris is appalling. Your organizations reason referenced consumer complaints, motivated days after cable TVs Bill OReilly, host of the Fox News Channels The OReilly Factor, accused your company of being immoral for using Ludacris to promote its product and urged his viewers to boycott the beverage company. This action by Pepsi has left me, a shareholder as well as the African American community, who are devoted Pepsi Co. (Pepsi-Cola, Frito-Lay, Quaker, Tropicana, Gatorade) consumers, angry, frustrated and disappointed.
This entire series of events is very irritating, especially since Pepsi, nor its consumers are concerned or uncomfortable with pop princess Britney Spears provocative costumes, stage antics, and lyrics, who currently is one of Pepsis biggest celebrity endorsers.
Please show your support and demonstrate to Pepsi and other corporations the collective economic power we have as the worlds largest consumer group.
