Subject: - Dramatic Increase of quota for the backward class people.
Its a shame for a country like India who currently has a Prime Minister of the stature of Dr. Manmohan Singh (The legend himself), is actually taking up ridiculous decisions of increasing the quota for backward classes from a value of about 22 \% (as in the case of IIMs and IITs) to about a horrifying figure of 49 \%.
It is quite obvious that the reason behind taking this step is to consolidate the vote bank of Ministers and the various politicians in power today. I would request all the readers to sign this petition if you can relate to the consequences mentioned ahead and have a heart for our nation.
IIMs and IITs to start with are the premiere institutes of our nation which are internationally recognized for their output quality in terms of students graduating and conquering not just India but the world. At this stage of their establishment, consider their future of having strength of about 50\% who belong to SC/ST and OBC who have actually got the quota to begin with for the reason that they received not so good education conditions in the past. I agree that its not their fault, but it is a complete nonsense to me that because they share a not so good educational background as compared to the General students, they should be given preference in admissions to these premiere institutes. Without doubt this decision would lead to degradation in output quality of the premiere institutes including IIMs and IITs. A quota of about 22 \% (earlier) was still acceptable by the majority of the people of this country as they associated the word controversial with this issue but the big question is that Would the youth and the majority of this country accept a 50\% quota for the same?. Is it still controversial? If I had to answer I would say its a big DISCRIMINATION. We have in our own country gone back to the times of racism and this racism is against none other than the general class of people.
I would like to present an analogy which was suggested by an IIT fellow while speaking on this issue. It is same like, because Im going bald and its not my fault, I should be given a preference/quota in the modeling and film industry. India over the past few years have seen an amazing potential in the countrys youth as suggested by their increasing demand globally and the pay packages offered to the Institutes, be it engineering, management, medical or others but this scenario will soon change as now amongst us will also stand people who are here not because they have earned their stand but because its not their fault that they could not earn their stand. The bottom line is that although its not their fault but they are not comparable to the class of general students who have actually earned their stand by passing entrance exams etc. Most of you who are current students of engineering and management institutes would agree with me that majority of the SC/ST and OBC people cannot withstand the pressure of reputed institutes curriculum. They either drop out during their course or pass out with not so good marks.
The government instead of increasing the Quota (for promoting their vote bank) should bring the level of SC/ST students up by implementing strategies at their elementary education level itself so that they become competent enough to appear for entrance exams without any quota. This would do justice to them without doing injustice to the general class students.
Finally I would like to say that this petition is not against SC/ST students and the statements made are not Generalized but what are observed in normal practice.
I would request all the people who have the same say towards the issue to sign this petition and take up radical steps towards the betterment of this nation and not towards the opposite end. All we need is a Generation Awakening and yes we do have a strong reason for it.
And if you disagree with me then be ready to face a not so good India.
