-THE EDMONTON OILERS COMMUNITY; THE VOICE OF THE FANS
On behlf of the fans of the City of Edmonton, and the various parts throughout the Province, Country, and World, this is a statement by which the fans feel it is necessary to make the following change. We, as the fans, do not wish to bombard on any positions or roles in the organization, but feel that we have come to a point where change is needed, and is clearly evident. This is not just the opinion of a small population of Oiler enthusiasts, but a large portion of us. There is some uncertainty and unease about the coaching staff, and it is felt that there might be an issue of friendship, more than what is right for the team. It is believed that Craig MacTavish lacks what Edmonton wants in their team, and does not accent or strengths, but provokes weakness inside the team. There is evidence in this aspect in the following statments:
(1) The Edmonton Oilers have went on their worst losing streak since 1995, losing 6 games consecutively. They had won their first three games prior to this, to some very talented clubs. The issue does not reside in the players. Something needs to change.
(2)Under Craig MacTavish, the Oilers have been an "under-motivated" team, a playoff contending team who is very streaky, and lacked of intensity. Slumps in periods, games, and portions of the season or evident in all MacTavishs' coaching experience. This is a team that is tightly knit on, and off the ice, and we know the chemistry is there, But incorrectly utilized.
(3)The team appears to be uncontrolled at times, taking penalties that appear distastful, and inconvenient providing the given situation at the time. They appear restless and frustrated, playing with lack of confidence, and appear nervous. Something is wrong with our attitudes.
(4)The team is playing a different style than what General Manager Kevin Lowe, and the rest of the Oiler Organization built. They are playing wiht absence of aggressiveness, and physical presence in the right areas.
These remarks are heard by many fans, not just Oiler fans. Hockey fans in general are picking up on the Edmonton struggle, and it is time to do something. In the name of the fans, the city and the thousands who pay this team's staff, we, the Edmonton Oilers Community, fans, and enthusiasts have decided to start this petition in hopes that the Organization is aware of the present situation we feel needs to be assessed.
