Equal Rights For Gays

I must let you know that I am concerned about your position on trying to ban gay marriage. I do agree with you that marriage is between a man and a woman, I do however; also believe that the gay community should have rights as well. I feel that the fact that you want to make a constitutional amendment to exclude certain Americans from certain rights is unconstitutional. If i were to ever be a lesbian, or happen to know someone who is, it pains me GREATLY to think that, if something happened to me, my partner may not be able to see me in the hospital, we may not be able to leave each other anything in our wills and what about the victims of 9-11? Why should THEY be excluded from any government benefits that were allotted to survivors just because they loved someone of the same sex? That is just flat out wrong Mr. President. How would you feel, Mr. President, if something happened to the love of your life and you could not see her, you could not help her, you could not be with in her greatest time of need? Homosexuality is not a disease and it is not a choice. It is a reality and the discrimination against homosexuals is just flat out wrong Mr. President. I do not believe that this letter will make you change your mind about trying to amend the constitution. And I do not believe that all hope will be lost for gay couples with such an amendment. It also concerns me Mr. President about how gay people do not have the right to adopt children. Since homosexuals cannot conceive traditionally, and artificial insemination is quite expensive, adopting children would make the life of some out there complete. It is terrible how so many gay couples who want to, and are capable of taking care of children cannot because so many are prejudice and homophobic. How would you like it if you were not able to love and take care of a child because someone said that it was wrong and would be bad to society? This country is about equality, not separation. It is about justice for all, not injustice for the different. It is about faith and hope and love. Love being the greatest gift given by God. I believe in the same God that you do Mr. President. I believe in what Jesus did on the cross for ALL. I believe we are all sinners saved by grace. I believe that it is grace that allowed you and me to be born in the GREATEST country in the world. And I have the utmost faith and hope that someday, I will not have to worry what would happen to me or my partner if tragedy struck. This issue is not going to go away Mr. President, with or without an amendment. This issue will only go away when we are given equal rights, not special rights. I am a human being Mr. President, with a heart full of love and all I am asking of my government is to allow me to love who I choose and to have equal rights.
