The planned growth for the Villages of Erin and Hillsburgh as well as the building of a sewage treatment plant (STP) has the potential of many negative impacts financially and environmentally on residents including:
1. A cost to each household in the existing villages of $32,000 for the main line and treatment facility
2. Potential significant increase in property taxes and our water bills, both of which are exceptionally high relative to most communities within our region currently. Also significant debt will be required by our town, burdening the towns future
3. A cost to each household in the urban areas to hook up to the facility including bringing the line into each home; plumbing alterations; decommissioning of the present system in use; landscaping-cost depends on distance from road
4. At a public meeting in March 2013, it was brought forward by a councillor that each rural property would be billed an annual fee to cover the cost of septic pumpers using the facility-is your septic tank pumped annually as most efficient systems are not?
