We respectfully request the South Eastern School Board review the status of the FANS program at Fawn Area Elementary School. In 2006 our FANS program was awarded The Golden Apple Award for education innovation. This award recognizes that innovative programs form the basis for school reform and the future of public education. The state recognizes the greatness of the FANS program as do the parents. Our children love it, too. They are having fun, getting exercise, and learning all at the same time. The children are much more alert and eager to learn in the classroom after having participated in FANS.
As stated in Fawns application letter to The Golden Apple Awards, FANS is much more than a physical development and recreation program, it is a systemic approach to stimulate childrens learning and that is why we will continue to promote and extend the FANS program at our school to all primary classrooms. We understand though, that this year the FANS program is only being offered to the at-risk Kindergartners during gym class. This backwards step is a disappointment to Fawns parents as we strongly desire the continuation and advancement of the FANS program. We, the parents, would like all our students to experience the positive benefits the FANS program provides.

I was a volunteer parent for the FANS program and a former elementary school educator. I can't imagine how an award-winning program such as FANS, where the children were cheerfully practicing their math facts and reading skills, could be ended. I'm afraid
