Fireworks Ban

Dear Hawaii Representatives and Senators,

We, the undersigned, believe that a clear voice of the citizens of Hawaii be heard regarding the use of fireworks in this state.

Fireworks are a class of low explosive pyrotechnic devices used for aesthetic and entertainment purposes. Fireworks (devices) take many forms to produce the four primary effects: noise, light, smoke, and floating materials (confetti for example).

We are writing to ask you to generate comprehensive legislation regarding the importation, sales, and use of fireworks in Hawaii. The main points of concern that needs to be addressed are included in this document.

The time has come to enact legislation regarding this issue and were counting on you to take a lead in supporting the included specific points and helping to make sure our desires become law.

SPECIFICALLY, WE REQUEST THAT THE FOLLOWING BE IMPLEMENTED:

1. The importation of fireworks be prohibited except for and by commercial enterprises specifically licensed for the display generation of fireworks

2. The importation of fireworks by a resident shall be subject to criminal prosecution

3. The possession of fireworks by a resident shall be subject to criminal prosecution

4. The sale of fireworks to residents is strictly prohibited and subject to criminal prosecution

5. The use of fireworks by anyone other than a licensed commercial enterprise shall be subject to a minimum fine of $250

6. Property damages and/or personal injury or death shall be subject to criminal and/or civil prosecution
