We the undersigned strongly support the development of 55 Laguna, the former site of the UC Extension, as proposed.
We are excited about the proposed development because it provides permanent multi-family rental housing, which is desperately needed in the heart of the City. Another great feature of the development is that it provides urgently needed senior housing and supportive services for the Lesbian Gay Bisexual and Transgender community.
We also enthusiastically endorse the project because it will provide 22,000 sf of truly accessible open parklands, which are in extraordinarily short supply in our urban environment.
Renovation of this blighted piece of real estate is well past due and our neighbors deserve better. The existing site is an eyesore and creates an unsafe environment in our neighborhood.
With the development and rezoning of the site according to the current plan, the public would actually be able to benefit and enjoy use of the site at 55 Laguna, as opposed to the historic and current use of the site, where neighbors and community are prohibited from entering or using the
site.
We support the work of our committed neighbors and community members who have worked on 55 Laguna for over 2-1/2 years and attended over 70 meetings. We are very concerned however, that another round of community meetings will unnecessarily delay or derail this much needed project.
WE STRONGLY OPPOSE ANY FURTHER DELAYS TO THE DEVELOPMENT OF 55 LAGUNA.
