Glen Rock School Day

Starting the day at 7:45 is already hard enough. When this is mentioned to people in other school systems, they find it astonishing that we begin classes at such an early time. With the extensions added we have to be ready to begin class at the ungodly time of 7:35. This means we now have to get to school by 7:30 or earlier. For families, this results in leaving their homes earlier than they used to, waking up earlier than they used to, and changing their morning routines from what they were already accustomed to. Its always been a hassle getting to school by 7:45, and it will be an even bigger hassle to get there by 7:35. An extra ten (10m) minutes at that time of the day will not accomplish anything other than creating more aggravation and stress among the parents that have to take their kids to school and rush off to work to everyday to be able to afford to live in a high taxed town like Glen Rock.
The extention creates a school day that is a little over seven and a half hours (7.5hrs) long. Keep in mind the average work day is eight (8hrs) hours long. This is a public school, not an office building where people are working white collar jobs. Here is a quote from the letter they sent out to everyone regarding the extention, "it will have profoundly productive effects on our children." These "profoundly productive effects" mentioned are supposed to occur in the extra two minutes (2m) added to each class. Now, correct us if we are wrong, that statement is a total exaduration. These extra two (2m) minutes will have most likley no effect what so ever.
Based on what has been said here, it's safe to conclude that the day extension is totally unnessecary. Starting at 7:45 and ending at 2:40 was fine, and a significant amount of work was accomplished in the time alotted by the old schedule. This petition is being signed by all of us, parents and students alike, to bring the school day back to its normal length, and to start at 7:45 and end at 2:40.
