This letter is sent in the spirit of inclusiveness and to address concerns brought forward by students. The Graduate Professional Council (GPC) has planned two "Speed Dating" events within this academic year. On both occasions, only heterosexual students have been included. In response to questions about the events, students were told that the GPC does not have the resources to accommodate all students and LGBTQ students are encouraged to plan their own event if they would like. However, we feel this is not an adequate solution. Excluding some members of the graduate and professional community is in direct conflict with one of the key points in the mission statement of the GPC: "Organize campus-wide social events open to all graduate and professional students."
We ask that, in the future, the Graduate Professional Council take into consideration the diversity represented within the graduate and professional school community.
