Improving Pokemon

There are many in the world who thouroughly enjoy the Pokemon games, and we want more! We realize that there are problems that go into the creation of an epic as large as Pokemon, and that you have your hands full in translation, editing, ect., and so cannot be faulted for trying your best to get the games to us in a timely manner while keeping the excitement and fun factor at the maximum. But there are some complaints that we the people have concerning your games, as are addressed below:
1. Incompatability between generations.
2. Lack of depth in story plots.
3. Too much focus on battling.
4. In/availability of promotions.
1. Incompatibility between generations-
The 3rd generation, starting with Ruby and Sapphire was absolutely wonderful. The way it was set up was phenomenal. There was a large region to explore, many people to talk to, and lots of pokemon to capture and train. You had added in so many new features that dramatically improved the series that the fans could do no more than enjoy themselves when they played the games. But you left out one important feature that defined the pokemon games, intentionally or unintentionally. You made it impossible for us to trade with the older pokemon games.
Weve heard it justified many ways like the differences between the programming between the games, or the difference between the hardware. The truth is, Nintendo/Creatures Inc./GAME FREAK Inc, that this doesnt mean a whole lot to dissapointed fans in the world who look forward to uniting their old teams with their new teams. You can, at any point in time, create a translation program that could allow communication between the 1st/2nd generation games and the 3rd generation. The question is, why dont you do it? You could only gain from such a course of action.
You did well by giving us our old monsters back with the release of Fire Red and Leaf Green, but its not the same. We the fans want, whether it be with the release of the next generation, or with a release within this generation, FULL COMPATABILITY with ALL pokemon generations, so that our pokemon team from Red, Blue, and Yellow can freely mingle with our team from Emerald. You have the ability to do it, so do it. Please.
2. Lack of depth in story plots-
For the most part, you do a good job at providing somewhat diverse actions within the stories of the games, but it is often the same from game to game. First we pick our starter, collect all badges, beat the Elite Four, and then were done. From there, the story is pretty much complete and we are left simply to focus on our training or whatever else there is available in the game.
We enjoy the collecting of badges, and all that good jazz, but there could be so much more to the game. Perhaps a person doesnt want to be the good guy, or perhaps they want to join a Gym, or maybe something else that could develop into an ongoing sub-story. Perhaps put another region within the game, like in the 2nd Generation games of Gold, Silver, and Crystal where we could adventure in both Kanto and Johto, collecting badges from both and facing their respective champions. Maybe theres a legendary treasure or something else that the character has to find after beating the game. The possibilities are endless. We dont want to get rid of the badge collecting or the Elite Four, but we do want some variety in our games, because besides the obvious differences, they are pretty much the same game repeated.
Fire Red and Leaf Green did a good job in this regard, because we got to explore the Sevi Islands. Perhaps in a later game you could expand on this and give us a Sevi League, or something else. And more then ever, WE want the RETURN of JOHTO. There has been mention of it in every game since the 2nd generation. Weve gotten the monsters from the region, now we want the region itself. You can make it happen, so please do so, because it would keep your fans happy.
3. Too much focus on battling-
Battling is crucial for the story, this is undisputed, and you have done a great job enhancing this aspect of the game. But perhaps the game focuses a little too much on the battle perspective. During the gameplay there are many references to building friendships with your pokemon. There are a few ways that we can do this, but its hardly realistic that the primary way to build a relationship with your monster is to train it to beat up another monster.
Maybe there could be more focus on the building of friendships between pokemon and player. Maybe the player doesnt want to be a Pokemon Battler, maybe they want another perspective of the world. In the real world, not everyone is a lion tamer. Why not have some other options of gameplay where the trainer can still battle, but also play games with his monster, feed it, or something else. The contests of Ruby, Sapphire, and Emerald were a nice and needed touch. Maybe place more emphasis on the ribbons, treat them like badges. Perhaps have a league based not on battling, but on contests, or something else. The possibilities are endless.
4. In/availability of promotions-
A frustrating reality that many people face is the inability to take advantage of different promotional opportunities because of financial situations, location, or other factors. There are several pokemon in the recent generation that are completely unobtainable to the majority of the population because they simply cant get to where they need to go to get it. You are not to blame for the situation of your fans, but it is an extremely poor choice to make so many pokemon unavailable to the general public. With the first generation, Mew was unobtainable. He was a trophy, and everyone wanted him. We had anticipated that with the 2nd generation we would be able to catch him. No dice.
2nd generation, there was the elusive Celebi that couldnt be obtained. Again, he was a trophy, but frustration was already building in the fan community because they were unable to complete their pokedexes. Now we had two monsters missing instead of just one. With the next generation, you introduced to us over a hundred new monsters, and in them you made two unobtainable, Jirachi and Deoxys, plus Mew and Celebi from previous generations, and then you made Lugia unobtainable as well. That was low.
A single pokemon per generation being held above all others in rarity isnt a bad thing, but there comes a point when it becomes too much. If you are going to withhold from us pokemon in one generation, we should be able to capture them in the next. This will prevent those who maybe arent so well off as to be living in a major city from feeling left out by the greedy money hoarding executives who make the games we play. It shows consideration for everyone involved. If you want to keep a pokemon secret for promotional purposes, do so, but when the next generation comes out give him to us. Its the right thing to do.
In conclusion, overall we, the fans, are happy with the pokemon universe. We are asking that you take these suggestions into consideration, and make the proper adjustments with your next release. You cant go wrong by incorporating these things into your games, and it would be making us happy. Allow us to trade between all the games, give us more story, more alternative gameplay, and give us our pokemon.
