Yet some glaring omissions remain- particularly the absence of these three artists and/or groups: Tommy Roe, Tommy James and the Shondells and REO Speedwagon. All three have been major influences in rock music, whose influence is still being felt today and whose music not only still sells in quantities but is being discovered by new fans each day.
Tommy Roe is widely recognized as the "father of bubblegum pop music"- where would such artists as The Naked Brothers Band, N*SYNC and the like and Miley Cyrus/Hannah Montana be if Roe hadn't paved the way with his brand of feelgood music?
Tommy James and the Shondells are also pioneers of feelgood bubblegum music, but they also paved the way for psychedelic rock and even folk/country.
Where would the great power ballad movement of the 1980s have gone if it hadn't been for REO Speedwagon creating the two biggest songs of said movement ("Keep on Loving You" and "Can't Fight This Feeling"?)
We, the undersigned, implore the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame committee to consider inducting these three deserving artists into the Class of 2009 next March. They deserve it.
