We, the student body of James Madison University, feel that the allocation of tickets for the William & Mary football game are extremely unjust and immoral. Out of 3200 tickets that were given to JMU to be distributed interested parties, 100.... Yes, ONE HUNDRED tickets were made available to the common person. How can you possibly tell us that it is fair for a pep club to be given "priority" on 2000 tickets? What about the students that waited in line for hours? What about the students rushed through exams and got to the convocation center just in time to spend $20 dollars on a $5 dollar ticket? Do they not deserve "priority?" JMU has been crying out for years that more support is needed for the athletic program if we as a university intend to grow; and this is how you repay us? You repay us by telling us that the hours we spent in line to get tickets on Monday morning doesn't get "priority" over someone in pep club that reserved their ticket at 3:59 PM on Tuesday afternoon. So what is the justification of these actions according to the JMU ticket office? According to the JMU ticket office; this justification was based on the attendance and purchase sales of games at Lehigh (way up north in Pennsylvania) and Furman (way down south in South Carolina). HELLO! Of course, most people would not want to drive 6 hours to go to a football game, regardless of the teams. In conclusion, the signers of this petition feel as though they have been slighted by James Madison University, and furthermore, question the decision-making ability of those that control our athletic programs and ticket sales. Also, we question the loyalty and committment to the CURRENT student body.
