Hotel workers are 48\% more likely to be injured on the job than the typical service worker
Disabling injuries occur to hotel workers at a rate 51\% higher than for other service workers
95\% of housekeepers report physical pain due to their jobs
67\% of housekeepers report severe or very severe physical pain
Of those reporting pain, the pain was severe enough for 73\% to visit a doctor and 53\% to take time off work to recover
Hotel workers face increasing work loads, understaffing, persecution when they try to form a union, and lack of health coverage. The same workers who create a home away from home for the business traveler often struggle to have a home of their own, even while working full-time.
OUR PLEDGE FOR ECONOMIC JUSTICE FOR HOTEL WORKERS
WE BELIEVE that hotel workers deserve to be able to support themselves and their families with their wages. They deserve to be treated with respect. They deserve the right to organize for improved working conditions without fear of retaliation or intimidation.
WE AFFIRM that workers are acting in the best interests of our community when they join together to improve their lives and working conditions and set standards for hotel workers in our community.
WE PLEDGE that we ourselves will stand by hotel workers as they stand up for themselves, just as many of us have done at the Crowne Plaza.
AND WE PLEDGE that we will support them as they fight for the core values of our community economic justice and human dignity.
