Let Maldives survive

Dear friends,












It's urgently needed to help people who live in the Republic of Maldives, in the village of Mandhoo Island. Their life and future is at stake, due to some greedy acts of environmental destruction initiated by an international hotel chain, operating in the Maldives (Hilton Maldives Resort and Spa, Rangali and Rangalifinolhu islands). In particular, Hilton Management is rudly and massively uprooting palms and mangroves away from Mandhoo, to plant again them in its new or renewed resorts for tourists... In that way, they are seriously damaging, not only local environment but Mandhoo micro-economy too, based on handicraft; besides, people of Mandhoo have just palms for building their boats with wood; roofs for their houses and ropes for all necessities with leaves. Coconuts, at ther different stages of ripeness, give to people food & drink, essences, oil and so on. Palm trees have hundreds functions, like to give shadow, in a place where the sun is a daily fellow, and stability to the coralline sand, already dragged away from the ocean with such strenght that many maldivian islands are endangered to disappear in few decades.
