Lord of the Rings Outtakes Video

Dear Peter Jackson,

For three years now, Lord of the Rings fans have heard you and the rest of your cast and crew talk about the many bloopers and practical jokes that occurred on the set of the films. We've even had the privilege of witnessing some of those outtakes and jokes through the extra footage you kindly included on the DVD's. And at the Oscars after-party for TheOneRing.net, you mentioned a desire to produce a "proper box set" of all three movies which would include still more of that extra footage. As fans, we approve of and deeply appreciate this thought, but there's one slight flaw - we probably won't be able to afford it. Most of us already own the Special Extended Editions of the films, and many of us bought both the theatrical version and the extended version. The purchase of a boxed set of all three films would not only leave us with superfluous copies of the movies but would quite possibly put some of us into bankruptcy. (Hey, we're not all adults with jobs here.) This does, of course, leave us with the option of pirating the footage off the Internet, but we'd far rather show our support and respect for you by purchasing it legally. To that end, we have a solution to suggest.

We the undersigned would like to propose a separate, stand-alone VHS/DVD made up of the interviews, outtakes, and other extra footage you would include in the boxed set. Just as the National Geographic special was included in the Collector's Edition of The Fellowship of the Ring but was also sold separately, such a compilation video could be included in the boxed set while still being made available to those of us who already own the films. Not only will the boxed set still be profitable because of the many people who refrained from buying previous editions out of a desire to wait for such a boxed set, a compilation video would be purchased by those fans who already own the trilogy and would not have bought the boxed set just for the extra footage. Then, too, a video made up only of bloopers would be a great opportunity for the fans to feel closer to the cast and crew.

Over the last few years, you've repeatedly demonstrated your dedication to your fans and your willingness to listen to them; we bring this before you in the hope that you will listen to us one more time and produce an outtakes VHS/DVD. After all, what else do we have to look forward to until The Hobbit?
