Make Sheriff Joe Go

N.B. I am English. This crisis came to my attention through the showing of 'Brits Behind Bars: America's Toughest Jail' on Virgin 1, where 10 British men were sent to Tent City.

We, the undersigned, ask the United States Government to remove Sheriff Joe Arpaio (the infamous Maricopa County Sherrif) from office immediately. He has broken the United Nations Declaration Of Human Rights, and the United States Bill Of Rights (the first 10 amendments to the United States Constitution). His prison regime is harsh, brutal, and has resulted in many unlawful deaths (including a 33 year old handicapped man who had the mental age of a 12 year old). Surprise searches, humiliating chain gang work and brutal beatings from the prison guards are clearly unacceptable. The prisoners need to be rehabilitated properly, as around 60\% of all inmates released from 'Tent City' (one of the most notorious jails in the whole of the USA) end up back inside.

Sheriff Joe feeds his inmates on less than 30 cents a day, only feeding them twice a day, and feeding them out of date food that is marked 'not for human consumption'. There is no wonder that the prison inmates under his 'care' are very dangerous men.
