According to the CDC (as cited by the National Institute of Mental Health), suicide was the third leading cause of death among young people aged 10 - 24 in 2007. As of 2010 there were nine confirmed suicides resulting from bullying in the state of Michigan. Despite recent suicides in 2010, legislation aimed at combating school bullying died on the Senate floor.
Its time to protect all children in Michigan. Its time for our elected officials to understand and recognize that bullying affects all children. Bullying does not just effect the victim, it also affects the bully and all bystanders. Please support and protect our children by supporting anti-bullying legislation -legislation that names the groups of students most likely to be bullied. Dont let Michigan be the only state to have failed to pass life saving anti-bullying legislation.
