NJ In-State Tuition Act

This bill supports nondiscriminatory equal access to higher education for all of our state's youth. Not only is this a moral issue, but it is a bipartisan bill which is good for NJ's economy. The NJ Office of Legislative Services stated that this bill will have no negative fiscal impact on the state. Moreover, undocumented students are not accessing higher education at the de facto out-of-state rates, so the University will not lose money by charging them equal rates. Last, the RAND Corporation study has found that an undocumented woman with a college degree will contribute $9,000 more to annual state taxes than someone lacking such a degree.
President McCormick, please urge our state's representatives and friends of higher education to support passage of this bill. The bill is expected to be posted in the Senate Budget & Appropriations Committee on January 4th. As President of our state's public university, your immediate action and vocal support is urgent, vital, and a matter of social equity for all NJ's youth.
