No More, Weezer

Over the last 13 years, you have sold millions of records, filled clubs and arenas for hundreds of live shows, and produced 5 albums - all of which were fairly reviewed by the mainstream media. We, your fans, have stood by during all of this; purchased your records, appreciated your music, and defended your name to our aging friends. But at this current date, we feel that it is the time to say: enough is enough.
It has been over a decade since the release of the oft-considered masterpiece, "Pinkerton." Most of us fans, if not all, adore this album and consider it an all-time favorite. Critics too, while initially taking slow to it, have come to recognize it as a landmark album of the '90s alternative rock movement, and its influences are still being felt today. Just two years prior to "Pinkerton," you blessed the world with the release of your self-titled debut, so affectionately referred to as "The Blue Album." And we love that as well, it is an absolute classic. Its crisp production quality, flawless melodies, and iconic guitar solos are forever engraved into our memories.
But, to reiterate, it has been over a decade since you released "Pinkerton," or anything that we are proud to call "Weezer."
In fact, the subsequent material released since then - three full-length albums - do anything but make us proud; they shame us. We have stood by with respect in your defense, to spare our collective dignity, but you have done nothing but shame us, your loyal and loving fans, with this music that we can barely recognize. For several years now, it has been difficult for us to say that we are Weezer fans. This recent news of an impending sixth album has all but assured us that it will make it downright impossible.
We are writing to you in hopes that you will understand the difficult position your new music has put us in. We want to hold on to the memories, both the good and the bad, that are provoked by your first two records. We want to say Weezer is one of our favorite artists. We want to REMEMBER that, at least for a brief time, Weezer made some incredible music. Please do not take that away from us anymore than you already have.
In writing this petition, we are asking that you cease releasing music under the group title "Weezer." We don't want to hear anything new from "Weezer," and we are not asking that you try to replicate your old sound. We are simply asking that you stop the bleeding. Stop making this music which is only making matters worse. Let us try to salvage all we can from the name "Weezer," if anything. Let us remember all the good that Weezer used to be. Let us try to save it from further falling through the pages of music history as a joke.
Please, let Weezer's history end. Do not make anymore music that you will call "Weezer." Because to us, and for quite some time now, we no longer recognize the name.
