Obscenity and Vulgarity in the name of Freedom of Expression

Dear friends,





There was an incident in which one particular painter made obscene and vulgar paintings of Lord Jesus Christ,Lord Vishnu, Goddess Durga and Lord Shiva and alongwith it he put few pictures namely Gautam Buddha,MK Gandhi and Osama Bin Laden and himself as together showing his fascination towards terrorism and International Terrorist and comparing blood thrusty Osama bin Laden with icons of peace, Gautam Buddha and Mahatma Gandhi, all in the name of Freedom of Expression. When people protested against display of such vulgar and disgusting work, the then acting dean of the faculty came to his help and hindered legal process and the dean subsequently suspended and the student arrested. So far so good... but some of the Congress and Left sponsored groups got together to have a dig at the current chief minister of Gujarat in India and since the Governor of the state belongs to the ruling coalition of Congress and Communists at the center, he appointed a committee to investigate the matter, which is purely and solely University's Vice Chancellor's jurisdiction. Is not it rubbing salt to the injury? And does Freedom of Art means demeaning Gods and Goddesses? All those talking about Freedom of Art and autonomy are hell bent upon killing the autonomy of the University under reference.
