Opposing plans of Telus to install a cell phone tower at Roxboro United Church in Roxboro, Quebec

We, the undersigned, do not agree with and we oppose the plans for Telus to install of a cell phone tower antenna at Roxboro United Church (RUC) located at 116, rue Cartier in Roxboro, Quebec; · We do not support the fact that if such an antenna were installed on RUC property, this tower antenna could potentially be located within 100 meters from the Charles Perrault school ( where 324 students attend) and from nearby Roxboro residences; · We oppose the fact that this agreement between Telus and RUC appears to have been undertaken without first consulting local residents, local borough officials and without consulting the staff and parents of the adjacent school or the Roxboro library; · We oppose this installation because we want to protect the health and safety of the school children, teachers and local residents and library users and staff from the potential harmful effects of the electromagnetic fields from the antenna; · We oppose the installation of the cell phone tower because nearby residents do not want the value of their properties to be devalued or lowered as a result of being located so close to a cell phone tower installation; · There is increasing scientific evidence of the biological effects caused by low intensity radiations including the fact that it has been recognized recently that such antennas emit electromagnetic fields that are possibly carcinogenic to humans; · According to Dr. Magda Havas, Associate Professor of Environmental & Resource Studies at Trent University, "The more antennas that are near schools the greater the potential exposure of students and teachers to radio frequency radiation from external antennas"; · It is our concern that the RUC installation, should it be allowed to go ahead, would not be able to adhere to the general guideline from a November 2010 scientific study in which researchers recommended “cell phone tower base stations should not be located less than 1500 ft (500 m) from the population and at a height not lower than 150 ft (50 m); - More information on the proposed Telus Tower for the Roxboro United Church property is available at: http://aprpr.org/?p=3681
