religiхes, vem, por este meio, apelar ao Governo Portuguкs, Presidente em
exercнcio da Uniгo Europeia, para que exerзa a sua influкncia com vista a
obter a libertaзгo dos cidadгos israelitas raptados, um junto а Faixa de
Gaza e os outros dois na fronteira com o Lнbano, hб mais de um ano e
permanentemente desde entгo em situaзгo irregular de cativeiro, contrariando
todos os princнpios humanitбrios definidos pela Convenзгo de Genebra e pela
Resoluзгo 1701 do Conselho de Seguranзa das Naзхes Unidas.

The Aristides de Sousa Mendes foundation and the undersigned, inspired by the altruistic gestures of Consul Aristides de Sousa Mendes who saved thousands of persons from the Nazi camps in 1940 without regard for race or religion, seeks, by these means, to appeal to the Portuguese government, exercising the presidency of the European Union, to use its influence with the objective of obtaining the liberty of the Israeli citizens kidnapped next to the Gaza strip and the other two on the border with Lebanon, for more than one year, and permanently since the irregular kidnapping, contrary to all the humanitarian principles defined by the Geneva Convention, Resolution 1701 of the Security Council of the United
Nations.
The sincerest desire of the undersigned is for the achievement of a lasting just peace in the Middle East, satisfying the legitimate ambitions of both sides.
