We, the undersigned users of Resnet at UCSC, are against the continued use of mandatory manual authentication on the wired residential network. While we understand that some type of login is necessary for the Perfigo virus/vulnerability system to work, we will not stand for having to manually login more often than once every 2 weeks. (Some of the undersigned may also feel that once every 2 weeks is too often.)
(Perfigo is the login system being tested at Crown. It scans computers for virus's as they log onto the network. Currently the system requires a user to type in their CATS user name and password every time their computer has been turned off or asleep for more than 8 hours. Resnet is attempting to roll out this system campus wide by Fall 2004.)
