We, as Turks and friends of the Turkish people, are opposed to the isolation imposed on the Turkish Republic of North Cyprus. We are against the economic, travel, and educational embargoes imposed on the Turkish Cypriot people. In particular, as students, we reject the Greek attempts to isolate Eastern Mediterranean University and the unequal distribution of overseas scholarships in Cyprus, with seven Greek Cypriot students being able to study overseas for every three Turkish Cypriot students. As students, we believe that any university in any country should be able to freely form alliances with any university that it wishes and that all scholarships should be placed on merit and financial need, not ethnicity. We reject that the Greek Cypriot government represents the entire island of Cyprus, when in reality the only represent the Greek population in Southern Cyprus. We encourage the United States and other countries to ease the suffering of the Turkish Cypriots and recognize them as the humans that they are, with inalienable rights just like all other peoples on the planet.
