Our community is being forced to incur the problems of the citys budget.

As a result, we are being put in a dangerous situation in the evening hours when most fires occur.

The city of New York has decided to close 4 firehouses, and our engine company 161 is included in their closings.

There are currently two trucks in the firehouse at 278 McClean Ave.

The first, Engine 161 is the water vehicle for fires.

The second, Ladder 81 is the search and rescue vehicle.

Without Engine 161, Ladder 81 cannot function properly in an event of a house fire.

We will be at the mercy of other engine companies responding from greater distances putting all parties at a grave risk.

We the undersigned members and friends of the Staten Island community call on the mayor to reconsider this closing

As taxpayers, voters and residents of New York we call on all our elected officials to convince the mayor to keep Engine 161 operational 24 hours a day 7 days the week.
