The minimum age to legally purchase a long gun (shotgun or rifle) is 18, the legal purchasing age for a handgun is 21. I propose that the legal purchasing age be 18 for a handgun. An 18 year old may buy tobacco products, he or she may join the military, and may drive a car. If an 18 year old can pilot a 2-ton metal behemoth, why may an 18 year old not purchase a handgun? It is already legal to transfer a handgun to someone under the age of 18 in many places. The undersigned do hereby agree that 18 years of age is a reasonable age to buy a handgun and that the congress of the United States of America end the requirement to be 21 years of age to purchase a handgun.
