PETITION TO STOP VIOLENCE IN BURMA AND SUPPORT PEOPLES CLAMOR FOR DIALOGUE AND DEMOCRACY
We, concerned members of civil society organizations, churches and basic sectors in the Philippines, stand alongside the peoples of Burma as they peacefully seek reforms and call for democracy and reconciliation.
We urge the Burmese military junta to engage the people in a dialogue to address the legitimate grievances of its people and exercise utmost tolerance and restraint and put an immediate stop to the violence and brutal crackdown on demonstrators.
We call on the United Nations to act swiftly and decisively to ensure the protection of the Burmese peoples human rights and hold the Burmese government accountable for any further bloodshed.
We call on governments especially the members of the Association of Southeast Asian Nation (ASEAN) to prevail upon Burma to desist from further acts of violence and support the Burmese citizens clamor for genuine peace and democracy in the country.
Our challenge to the Burmese military junta is dialogue or regime change!
